I wasn’t satisfied with one Rothko inspired/influenced piece, so I did another (honestly, I’ll *try* to not make it a habit, but there are other ideas for crossover pieces). While this is a more orderly, contained structure typical of a Rothko work, it has a much brighter and luminous color story that I favor. There’s a strange yet pleasing joy to the seemingly random anomalies – that unambiguous blue line in a sea of green; the rows of teeth insinuating speech and laughter in the top third; a mis-torn piece of tape led to a fortuitous decision and result in the bottom right corner. I have no idea why that angled cut pleases me so, but every voice in my head say it’s imperfectly perfect, and that’s a good thing.
