When contemplating diversity and inclusion, my thoughts lead to ideas of beauty, harmony, richness. So, when challenged with the theme of this exhibition, I knew my work must attempt to include each of these concepts.
An artist’s palette is an excellent metaphor for how diversity and inclusion can bring forth vibrancy; because color theory teaches us:
– Much like a chorus of distinct and diverse voices, colors are impacted and enhanced by the other colors surrounding them.
– When a palette contains complementary colors, the overall composition is then perceived as more vibrant. Complementary Colors appear richer because of their uniqueness; they reside across from one another on the color wheel.
– Nature demonstrates a rich, diverse palette – providing vibrancy, beauty and harmony to observe and enjoy.
