VISIBLE MENDING: BORO, SASHIKO & KANTHA STITCHING - Part 1

THE GALLERY AT FLAT ROCK

Jun 20 2026 - Jun 20 2026

Discover the beauty of repair in this hands-on visible mending workshop inspired by traditional Japanese and Indian textile practices. In this class, you'll learn the art of mending as decoration using techniques rooted in boro and sashiko stitching from Japan, alongside the rhythmic, running stitches of Indian kantha.
Participants will explore how to repair and reinforce worn or damaged textiles while adding layers of texture, pattern, and story. You'll practice foundational stitches, patching methods, and design approaches that transform garments into one-of-a-kind pieces with history and character.
This class emphasizes slow making, sustainability, and honoring cloth through thoughtful repair. Whether you're new to hand stitching or looking to expand your textile skills, you'll leave with practical techniques, creative inspiration, and a renewed appreciation for the life of your garments.

The cost for both workshops is $100. Call or stop by The Gallery at Flat Rock to sign up. 828-698-7000
