Lynn Padgett

Acrylic, Mixed Media, Fiber
Hendersonville, NC

Lynn’s paintings are almost always a matter of interpretation. She is intentional about asking viewers to bring their own experience to a painting or collage. She works primarily in acrylic and acrylic ink, but I also enjoy collage, mixed media, pen and ink, and experiments with textiles.

What she sees or the story a painting tells her may not be what the viewer sees. Landscapes could be many places.  Figures, when they appear at all, are ambiguous. An abstract is often an experiment with color, texture or composition, waiting for viewers to follow their own unique pathways into it.

During a thirty-year career as a writer, editor and designer for books, magazines and exhibits, Lynn enjoyed the challenge of balancing words with images to create clear messages and strong visuals. She now enjoys exploring the ways that painting and collage evoke experience without the constraint imposed by the linear arrangement of words.  The “story” told by a painting is perceived both all at once and detail by detail.

The rhythms of line and playful arrangement of shapes and colors almost always surprise her with something unintended.

Her paintings have been displayed in juried shows at the Tryon Arts and Crafts Center; Public Library Exhibits in Spartanburg, SC; the Southern Arts Society’s “Women in Art” show at Kings Mountain, NC; the Tryon Painters and Sculptors “Art in Bloom” festival in Tryon, NC; and the Asheville Regional Airport gallery.

Since moving to western North Carolina in 2001, She has been a member of the Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild, Tryon Painters and Sculptors, and the Art League of Henderson County.

“I treasure those moments of enchantment when a vision makes it out of my head and heart and comes through my hands into a painting that invites consideration of a subject in an unexpected way.”
